why foster with us?

support and rewards

finance and allowances

As a foster carer with your Foster Wales Ceredigion team, you will receive generous financial allowances. These are based on a number of factors like the type of fostering you undertake, how many children you foster, and for how long.

For example, right now, foster carers in Ceredigion receive between £9,932 and £18,200 per year for each child fostered.

other rewards

There are more perks to being a foster carer than you might think. As well as the support and allowances mentioned  already, in Ceredigion you’ll also get:

  • Additional allowances at birthdays and religious holidays.
  • Continuous service allowance.
  • Membership to the CADW scheme.
  • Ongoing post-approval training and training allowances.

the foster wales national commitment

Every one of the 22 Local Authorities who are part of Foster Wales have signed our National Commitment. That means every foster carer in Wales can enjoy an agreed package of training, support and rewards.

So, if you decide to become a foster carer in Ceredigion, you will benefit from:

one team

You will become an integral part of our team. A team of professionals and carers who work together and always value and respect one another.

We strive to build strong connections and, by joining us, you will build links with those who hold ultimate responsibility for every child looked after by foster carers in Wales. Together, we can build the best possible futures for all the children we care for, and their foster families.

learning and development

Our aim is to build a better future for children, and part of this is ensuring all our foster parents have regular growth and learning opportunities, to be the best they can be.

Our commitment means a consistent framework and services for development across Wales. As part of your foster care training in Ceredigion, you will receive all the tools and guidance you need to fully meet the needs of the children in your care, and to feel confident, capable and happy doing so.

All foster parents with Foster Wales Ceredigion are given an individual personal learning record and development plan. This will log any foster carer training courses in Ceredigion that you have taken. It also helps to recognise a carer’s journey, outline new transferrable skills which have been mastered, and aid in planning for the future.

support

Being one big team means you’re never alone. There is always someone on hand to support and encourage you, to share advice or simply be a sounding board. Think of us are your Foster Wales Ceredigion team – your network.

Your closest connection will likely be with your social worker. Our Supervising Social Workers are skilled and experienced professionals, and are on hand to you, your family and your entire network if needed.

Beyond your social worker, professional support is available 24/7. So, whatever you need, whenever you need it, we’re here for you.

We also encourage our foster parents to access our range of support groups as these allow you to meet other foster carers in the local area. You can chat, listen and share experiences. Many of our groups members go on to become firm friends.

Wherever you live in Wales, peer support is available and can make a huge difference in your journey. Whether you’re a couple or a single person, care for siblings or offer therapeutic care, we have a community where people understand.

fostering community

When you join Foster Wales, we pay for you to become a member of The Fostering Network (TFN) and the Association for Fostering and Adoption (AFA) Cymru, as standard. These are specialist fostering organisations that offer independent support, private advice, guidance and a whole host of additional benefits.

Beyond local groups and your immediate support team, you will also be invited to regular events and to partake in activities aimed at bringing foster families closer together. They’re pretty fun, and a great  experience to build friendships and memories. Plus, they’re a reminder of how big and welcoming the fostering community in Ceredigion really is.

shaping the future

Although the journey that got us all to this point is important, we can’t change the past, so we focus on the present and the future. And, becoming a foster carer means you can play a huge part in what this looks like for a child in your care.

We celebrate every moment together and value your opinion and input: on a local, regional and national level. We like to encourage feedback, so you will always be invited to consult and influence the future of fostering in Wales. Plus, you’ll receive regular updates on news, changes and information.
